Conductivity
meter Calibration SOP
1.0 OBJECTIVE:
To
lay down the calibration procedure of Conductivity meter for reliable and accurate results.
2.0 SCOPE:
This
shall be applicable to the Conductivity
meter of Quality Control Laboratory.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
3.1
Technical
Assistant/ Helper.
3.2
Q.C Analyst.
4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY:
4.1
Manager-Quality
Control.
4.2
Head of the Q.C
Department.
5.0 MATERIAL AND
EQUIPMENT:
5.1
Conductivity meter.
6.0 PROCEDURE:
6.1 Before
starting calibration makes sure that the instrument is in correct measurement
mode.
6.2 Wash
the electrode with deionized water after and before use and store it dry.
6.3 Change
the buffer after one week or when required, and record the details.
6.4 Perform
the calibration using standard buffer of 1413μS and record the details.
6.5 Press
the mode key to select conductivity mode the conductivity indicator appears in
the upper right hand corner of the display.
6.6 Rinse
the electrode thoroughly with deionized water or a rinsing solution do not wipe
the probe this causes the electrostatic charge on the glass surface.
6.7 Dip
the electrode into the calibration buffer, the end of the probe must be
completely immersed into the sample. Stir the probe gently to homogenize the
sample.
6.8 Press
CAL/MEAS key to enter conductivity calibration mode. The CAL indicator will be
shown. The primary display will show the measured reading while the smaller
secondary display will indicate the conductivity standard buffer solution.
6.9 Press
HOLD/ENTER key to confirm calibration. The meter is now calibrated to the
current buffer.
6.10 Rinse
the electrode with de-ionized water or a rinse solution and store it dry.
6.11 Note
down in annexure-1.
6.12 Preparation of
standard buffer of 1413μS:
6.12.1 Dissolve
0.7459g of potassium chloride in distilled water made up to 1 liter of solution
i.e. 0.01N solution.
6.12.2 At
25oC this has a conductivity of 1413μS/cm.
6.13
Record the result
on the “Calibration Record”,
“Calibration Log Book” & paste the “Calibration
Status Sticker” on Conductivity meter.
