Objective:
To lay down the procedure for cleaning of drains.
Scope:
This procedure is applicable to all departments having drains.
Responsibility:
Microbiologist.
Accountability:
Quality Control Manager.
Procedure:
First of all, Flush the drains with lot of potable water.
Prepare the disinfectant solution as per given below.
Pour 200ml of the following disinfectant solutions under use at the end of day’s work in all the drains and record the activity.
10% Formalin Solution
Quantity of disinfectant: 27ml of (commercially available 37% formalin solution)
Quantity of Water: 73ml
Final Volume:100ml
Final Concentration:10%
Procedure: to make 10% formalin solution; Take 27ml of (commercially available 37% formalin solution) in 100ml sterilized measuring cylinder and add 73ml of distilled water to make up the final volume upto 100ml.
5% Potassium Permanganate
Quantity of disinfectant: 5g
Quantity of Water: 100ml
Final Volume:100ml
Final Concentration: 5%
Procedure: to make 5% potassium permanganate solution; Take 5g of potassium permanganate in 100ml sterilized measuring cylinder and add 100ml of distilled water to make up the final volume up to 100ml.
