SOP For Disinfectant Solution Preparation

In this post, Standard Operating Procedure is given of Disinfectant Solutions Preparation in Pharmaceuticals Microbiology LABs.

This procedure has been established to describe the preparation of different disinfectants to be used in Microbiology Laboratory.

This procedure is applicable to a Microbiological Lab in a Quality Control Department.

I. Glutaraldehyde (3.5%):

For preparing 100ml of 3.5% glutaraldehyde solution take 93ml of phosphate buffer pH 7 and place it on continuous stirring and  add 7ml of dropwise glutaraldehyde in it. Heat the solution until clear solution form. Filter the final solution and transfer it to the ss container and then transfer it to the storage area and label it properly.

II.   Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) 7%:

For preparing 100ml of 7% hydrogen peroxide solution, take 20ml of H2O2 in 80ml of distilled water if not available the highly purified RO water. Filter the final solution and transfer it to the ss container and then transfer it to the storage area and label it properly.

III.   Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) 3%:

For preparing 100ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide solution, take 8.57ml of H2O2 in 91.43ml of distilled water if not available the highly purified RO water. Filter the final solution and transfer it to the ss container and then transfer it to the storage area and label it properly.

IV.  Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) 70%:

For preparing 100ml of 70% IPA solution, take 70ml of IPA in 30ml of distilled water if not available the highly purified RO water. Filter the final solution and transfer it to the ss container and then transfer it to the storage area and label it properly.

V.  Phenol (5%)

For preparing 100ml of 5% phenol solution, take 5g of phenol and heat it to convert the crystals into liquid form and then add in 100ml of distilled water if not available the highly purified RO water. Filter the final solution and transfer it to the ss container and then transfer it to the storage area and label it properly.

VI.   Phenol (2.5%)

For preparing 100ml of 2.5% phenol solution, take 2.5g of phenol and heat it to convert the crystals into liquid form and then add in 100ml of distilled water if not available the highly purified RO water. Filter the final solution and transfer it to the ss container and then transfer it to the storage area and label it properly.
